Never knew...

...getting married in Spain was so complicated! When I finally work out how to actually tie the knot I'll do a post on it as finding clear information online in almost impossible :-)

When I moved to Spain, 8 years ago and at the ripe old age of 30, I held two fingers up to the very idea of marriage. After 4 years we had a daughter ( GASP ! - Out of wedlock ) and have been unable to get a libro Familar because we have the black mark of being an unamarried couple branded on our front door.
I DID research the subject of marriage in Spain as 2 Foreigners - even the subject of registering a "Pareja de Hecho", but sadly apathy got in the way...

I don't understand why in so many westernised countries things are still made so difficult if you're not married. Last year we got treated really badly at customs in the States for that very reason and my boyfriend was made to join a different queue to me just because we don't have rings on our fingers! Have also heard pareja de hecho paperwork is as much hassle as marriage - it makes you wonder if it's easier to get on a flight to the UK and to tie the know, or even just do it in Gibralter?! Though

maybe with David being Spanish things would be easy there either.

Bonjour Nadya!

I won't be very helpful but we did almost all the paperwork to get married here in Spain and it was indeed a real hassle. As we had to leave Spain for professional reasons we eventually gave up everything and got married in India a few months later (we went through the all Indian process and I think it wasn't bad compared to the French/Spanish one after all...ok we did bribe a few people to get our paperwork completed, oh well). But I'm sure you can do it, maybe some British/Spanish friends went through the process and can give you some tips? Best of luck, hope you can tell me soon about it in person :-)

Hehe, I wish we could bribe someone here Vanessa! Most people I know ended up getting married abroad in the end. However, I've started the process and it's going ok I think (fingers crossed) so hopefully all will be ready for August. Anyway, let's meet soon - this past month has been awful but life will be a little calmer now :-)
xx

We looked at it but after 10 years we still have not done it. Maybe this helps:
